Nail Reconstruction

I often see patients with severely damaged or malformed nails. This damage is often caused by trauma to the nail or as a result of a fungal nail infection, with the large toe nail being particularly prone to this. In the past that was that, but now damaged nails can be rebuilt thanks to a revolutionary new technique.

To recreate beautiful nails I use a specifically designed Light Cured Acrylestes Resin called Pedique from LCN. The process is painless and we start by removing any of the diseased nail with high speed diamond burrs, these burrs are also used to key the surface of any remaining healthy nail. A collagen expander is then applied to further improve adhesion for the resin. The nail is then created freehand by laminating and curing each layer. Once satisfied with the thickness of the new nail it is shaped, ensuring that the surface is smooth and free from defects. If French Manicure is required it is applied at this stage prior to the final light pink sealing top coat.

The new nail can have nail polish applied without any problems and no special nail polish remover is required. Back filing of the nail may be required after 4-6 weeks and Pedique nails may be filed as they move forward as the new nail grows. This procedure is also effective where a section of nail has had to be removed for a corn or callus.
